Culture Club - Miss Me Blind (YouTube)
I've been spending a lot of time on YouTube lately, digging up music videos from the '80s that I had never seen before or could only recall vaguely. So this week I'm posting three videos from the era that make use of split screens.
First up is Culture Club's Miss Me Blind, off 1983's Colour by Numbers album, released as a single in 1984. Split-screen highlights include the appearance of a filmstrip on the side that runs through the video's frames, and the use of windows and blinds as subframes to provide projection surface or depth of space. All that and a bag of non-sequitur visuals from Japan and other oh-so-exotic Asian cultures.
