Lexus - IS (1) (QuickTime)
Lexus - IS (2) (QuickTime)
I guess this week's theme is split-screen shots of/inside moving cars. Following on the heels (wheels?) of Strip Mall and Ride are these new 2005 commercials for the Lexus IS. The clips use some of the same ideas found in the two shorts posted earlier, such as merging two separate views from inside the car and playing with the movement and textures of roadway objects within the two subframes.
Clearly, I have no choice but to sue Lexus for millions. My lawyer and I will be getting in touch with them shortly.

The first time I saw the Lexus commercial I had the same thought that it looked remarkably similar to your short film "Ride." Such insanity. Media of all types are certainly being sparked by independent works on the web. Art directors scour the web for any form of inspiration and come off in the mainstream as being pioneers of new trends. When in all actuality it is nothing but plagiarism. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery-my ass. Love the site. Keep up the good work!

Thanks.
Some of the similarities are eyebrow-raising. If someone stole with the intention to do so, then they should be ashamed.
But who knows what really happened? I mostly laughed at the sameness of some shots. Hopefully, the ad will inspire others to play with split screens. Also, it serves as a good reminder to myself to keep thinking + making more stuff.
